The challenge we all face in communication is to be able to communicate in a style that the listener will listen to and understand.
Gain commitment and cooperation of others:
- People tend to trust and work well with those who appear to be like themselves.
- The way to gain commitment and cooperation is to adapt to others' style.
Build Effective Teams:
- Opposite styles can be more effective in a team because they pay attention to different aspects of a problem.
- Build more effective teams by being aware of behavioral styles. You can't be-ware until you are first a-ware.
Resolve and Utilize Conflict:
- People get hired for their technical competence and fired for not getting along with others. (hard skills/soft skills).
- Show people how to communicate in a style that encourages personal competence while at the same time respects others and fosters teamwork.
Job Compatibility:
- People perform best when doing work they are naturally suited to do (working in an area of their strength).
- Put people in the right jobs. Assign work to the right people.
